Exciting things are coming to the garden soon.
A new sign … thanks to Rob @mjmfoods it’s being designed and created by Ali @WiganWorkshop
Here’s the first draft mockup but have requested a few changes … rainbow in sky, the white box removed from the logo etc. It’ll be 💚
If you fancy a bit of litter picking, weeding, and cleaning just head on over.
We have a very small team of dedicated volunteers who meet on Friday mornings from 10:30am but with your help we can do so much more.
Hope to see you next Friday.
Get in touch if you can help.
Thanks in advance ❤️

In the summer of 2018 the local community, along with support from Ward Councillors, Lawrence Hunt and Mike McLoughlin saved the Cherries Community Garden from retail developers who wanted to rip it up and build a supermarket on the site.
The Friends group, all volunteers from the local community, took over the management of the garden under licence with the Council, and five eventful years later have created a community garden to be proud of, attaining Level 5 outstanding in the RHS In Your Neighbourhood Awards.

Since then, they have recently joined GRoW, Grass Roots of Wigan, a community-led network for people who live and breathe community life.

This will provide the Friends group with more local support, and open the doors to a range of different funding opportunities to help with plans to further develop the garden for the benefit of the community.

Great News!
We are thrilled to announce that we have secured some small pots of funding to help towards buying plants, planters, tools, tool storage, and new signage for the Cherries Community Garden.
Firstly, a special thank you to Rob, whose local business has generously offered to sponsor and fully fund the installation of a brand new sign.
We are excited to support local businesses and have instructed Alison and Clare at Wigan Workshop CIC to create our new sign.

Hi Alison,
It was lovely to meet you last week. We are excited to proceed with the new sign for The Cherries Community Garden. We have secured the necessary funding for it. I will send you our logo and some pictures of what we had previously, but please feel free to explore different design ideas. We would like the text on the sign to say something like:
Welcome to The Cherries Community Garden.
Everyone Welcome, including furry friends.
Please respect our beautiful green space.
Sign sponsored by mjmfoods.co.uk" with their Logo.
Incorporate images of our logo, cherries, bees, butterflies, etc. Maybe our website details? http://www.cherriescommunitygardenwigan.co.uk
If you have any suggestions for the new sign there’s still time to let us know.
More big thank you’s to follow!
Stay tuned for more updates and thank you all for your continued support.
Please share and tell the local community all about our good news.
Our garden features a variety of different areas, such as a stone amphitheatre to promote storytelling, a little library for swapping things, a wetland, a peace pergola, a wild flower garden, picnic benches and much more. We also have a composting system and rainwater collection to promote sustainable gardening practises.
Our Community Garden has grown into is a peace haven and a gathering place for the local community, thanks to all the amazing, genuine, kind, friendly Wiganers who give their help and support freely to make it a reality.
Come and sit for a while, take time out to relax listening to the bird song, and the humming of the insects as they pollinate the sweet scented flowers around you.
The Cherries Community Garden became a lifeline for the local community during lockdown.
